Dodgers Rumors: LA Reportedly Interested in Acquiring Lucas Giolito at Trade Deadline
The Dodgers need an upgrade to their pitching staff as the trade deadline quickly approaches. It’s no secret around the league where this team is deficient and they likely will make some moves to boost their chances.
Despite all the issues and injuries that the team has seen this season, they still went into the All-Star break tied for the NL West division lead. So the front office owes it to themselves and players on the team to go all-in for this season.
There have been plenty of rumors going around and we will likely see more as the deadline gets closer. But now we have a solid name that the Dodgers are interested in going after. MLB insider Jon Morosi gave the latest scoop.
The Dodgers are interested in White Sox RHP Lucas Giolito, one of the top available pitchers, sources say.
Giolito, who went to high school in LA, has a 3.45 ERA this year. The Dodgers have an @MLB-best 9 of the industry’s top 100 prospects, per @MLBPipeline.@MLBNetwork— Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) July 13, 2023
The team has been linked to Lucas Giolito in the past but now it’s getting more real by the day. Adding a pitcher like Giolito would greatly benefit this starting rotation. On the year, he holds an ERA of 3.45 over 19 games pitched. He has also added in 117 strikeouts in 112.1 innings.
Giolito would bring some stability to this rotation, something that the team has lacked pitching wise all season. He is also scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season so the price for him could be a little lower than what he is truly worth.
The White Sox sit towards the bottom of the AL Central so they could easily decide to be sellers at the deadline and Chicago would be smart to move him for something rather than possibly losing him for nothing — and that is where the Dodgers jump in.
He has a lot of promise for a pitcher and having the chance to work with Mark Prior and company could really benefit both himself and the team. The veteran pitcher is from Southern California so I’m sure he would welcome the chance to return home. Being able to pencil Giolito in behind Julio Urias and Clayton Kershaw would give the Dodgers a nice three-headed monster in the rotation for the playoffs.
This is likely the first of many rumors involving the Dodgers as the deadline approaches. The front office has some decisions to make to improve this staff but getting Giolito would be a major boost.
