Shohei Ohtani’s Porsche for Joe, Ashley Kelly Appears to Contain a Coded Message

One of the better stories from the Dodgers’ offseason has been the fun that Shohei Ohtani and Joe Kelly’s wife, Ashley, have had together. It all started with Ashley publicly recruiting Ohtani to Los Angeles by telling him that they would give him No. 17.

Ohtani ultimately did join the Dodgers this winter and afterward, had some fun of his own. He gifted the Kelly family a brand new Porsche as a thank-you gift for the warm welcome and the No. 17 jersey.

It was a nice gesture from the newest Dodgers player and makes for great camaraderie between the new teammates. During the Dodgers’ Community Tour on Wednesday, Kelly and his wife pulled up in the new Porsche while visiting a Jack in the Box in Ontario.

While the gift of the Porsche was great enough, it seems that there may be a hidden message planted within the car from Ohtani on the license plate. It took social media users to figure it out, but the number of DA3917 looks to mean “Dear Ashley, Thank You For 17”.

This makes the gift even more fun from Ohtani and shows the type of person he is. His teammates have welcomed him with open arms, so it’s incredible to see him reciprocating appreciation back.

Ohtani will likely be on the Dodgers for the remainder of his baseball career, so it’s a smart move by him to integrate himself within the clubhouse. This is just another example of why the Dodgers’ front office was so high on signing him long-term, and he hasn’t even taken the field for the team yet.

  1. I have been a Dodgers fan for almost 60 years. I have been to games an seen great players like Aaron, Mays, Ryan, plus all the Dodgers great since the late 60’s but never got close enough to get any autographs. I am going to try and change that this year cause we have great players that will be in the HOF an would be nice to leave my grand kids a little something. Wish me luck !!!
