Teoscar Hernandez Reveals Main Motivation in Re-Signing With Dodgers
Outfielder Teoscar Hernández revealed his main motivation for returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a recent interview with Grandes en los Deportes (the interview was translated from Spanish to English).
“Obviously, I’m 32 years old. These would be my last years as a player, not necessarily with this contract, but it’s getting closer,” Hernández said. “When you’re entering your 35 or 36 years, that’s just around the corner, as we say. It’s a team where I’ve played for practically half a year, and I felt super comfortable with the families. It was very important how they treat the relatives, and that made me want to return. That influenced a lot in the decision to return to the Dodgers.”
The response of Hernández is a testament to how outstanding the Dodgers organization really is. Players want to be in Los Angeles, not only for a chance to win, but also because of how well they are treated with the franchise.
Hernández also relayed the influence of faith and family on his decision to re-sign with the Dodgers this winter.
“First, God. God is above all,” he said. “Then my family, and of course, a place where I feel comfortable doing my job. It’s about feeling confident enough to be myself, to practice, and to perform well. The Dodgers have always been the best in making me feel that way, which is why I chose to return to them.”
On Friday, the Dodgers made the return of Hernández official with a press conference held at Chavez Ravine. While the outfielder was visibly cheerful to be back in Dodger blue, general manager Brandon Gomes explained why bringing back Hernández was pivotal for the organization.
“Teo is a special person, special player,” Gomes said. “You see out there his performance speaks for itself. But you can feel the energy he brings to the clubhouse—the infectious smile that he has each and every day.”
Hernández reiterated his love for the Dodgers organization.
“The Dodgers, they’re different,” Hernández said. “They think about everybody. Not only the players, not only the things I can do on the field. For me, they just give me the confidence. I never got that really in the other places that I worked. They trust in everything that I can give them, and to this team and this organization. And that was one of the biggest things for me, that pushed me to the best job that I can do.”
Hernández signed a three-year, $66 million deal with a fourth year option.
