This Picture of Mookie Betts is Breaking the Internet, Dodgers Star Joins Legends

It’s World Baseball Classic time and the stars are out all across the globe. Most of the Dodgers who are playing in the WBC, however, remained in Arizona to join up with Team USA. And thanks to that, during today’s first team practice, we got a triple Hall of Fame treat.

Mookie Betts was caught chopping it up with Angels superstar Mike Trout and the legendary Ken Griffey Jr in a photo that has broken the internet.

As the shares and comments and likes and retweets climbed, so does the excitement for the WBC, which is being played for the first time since 2017 after the pandemic wiped it out in 2021.

Between the three players pictured, you have…

  • 1,193 home runs
  • 3,381 runs batted in
  • 4 league MVPs
  • 29 All-Star appearances
  • 16 Gold Glove awards
  • 2 World Series rings (both Mookie)
  • and 1 Hall of Fame berth… for now

Griffey is a hitting coach on Team USA manager Mark DeRosa’s coaching staff. Mookie Betts is expected to play mostly second base for DeRosa, something he’s pretty excited about. Dave Roberts said earlier in spring training that Betts is likely batting in the two or three spot in USA’s lineup as opposed to his customary leadoff spot like with LA.

USA will face off against Trayce Thompson and Team Great Britain on Saturday, March 11 at 6 PM PT on FOX.
