Dodgers Starting Pitcher Walker Buehler Heads to the DL with Rib Microfracture

The injury bug continues to hit the Dodgers rotation as Walker Buehler will head to the disabled-list with a right rib micro-fracture.

History with the Ribs

Buehler exited his last start prematurely as the Dodgers faced the Atlanta Braves at Dodgers Stadium. In that start he picked up the win as he allowed one run on two hits in 5.1 innings. Dave Roberts noted that Buehler felt discomfort and had trouble breathing late in that start. The team has not announced a timetable for his return.

He was also hit by a 108 mile-per-hour line drive on May 21 against the Rockies, which was likely the root cause of the rib injury for Buehler.

Buehler will join Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dennis Santana as starting pitchers on the disabled-list. The star rookie is posting a 4-1 record with a 2.63 ERA in nine starts.

Current Rotation

The Dodgers recalled Caleb Ferguson from Triple-a Oklahoma City to replace Buehler on the roster. The team also expects to bring Kenta Maeda back as he comes off the DL, as he dealt with a right hip strain.

With Buehler out, the carousel of injuries to the rotation continues. The starting rotation currently consists of Alex Wood, Ross Stripling, Caleb Ferguson and Kenta Maeda.
