Walker Buehler Working Apart From Dodgers, Has No Timetable for Return

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been decimated with injuries, especially within their starting rotation. It’s been an injury-riddled season for the Dodgers on that front, and one of the many pitchers still trying to get healthy and find himself is former All-Star Walker Buehler.

Buehler resumed throwing a couple of days ago and appears to be recovering from the right hip inflammation that resulted in his placement on the 15-day IL on June 19. However, in order for him to find himself and return to an All-Star level, he has decided to work apart from the Dodgers.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Buehler is working out on his own in Florida:

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told Plunkett that Buehler has no timetable for a return.

“We don’t have a time of when he’s going to come back and start for us. Our hope is – obviously it’s going to be after the break, but I don’t really know when that is. I don’t.

“My expectation is that there’s progress. But again, I can’t speak to the delivery or where he’s at.”

Plunkett added that it was Buehler’s idea to work in a facility apart from the Dodgers, and they have supported that decision.

The Dodgers may be giving Buehler an extended break since he has struggled to get back to form after returning from his second Tommy John surgery in May before landing on the IL again. It’s been a tough mountain to climb for Buehler, who has a 1-4 record, 5.84 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in eight starts and 37 innings.

The 29-year-old has been a shell his former self since returning from his 2022 elbow procedure. Can Buehler find himself before the season ends, and help take this Dodgers team over the top?
