Clayton Kershaw Talks His New Dodgers Teammate Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Dodgers will get back their future Hall of Fame left-hander, veteran Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw not wearing a Dodger jersey would have been odd, but luckily for us, he will continue to wear the Dodger blue for at least the 2024 season.

Kershaw is back and we couldn’t be happier, including the media. The 35-year-old caught up with SportsNet LA after signing with Los Angeles again. In his interview, he credited his new teammate, Shohei Ohtani, for the media attention he receives.

“I just talked to him (Ohtani) a little bit, I don’t know him super well. But he seems like he’s got a great head on his shoulders and he can handle (the media attention). Honestly, it should be good for our other guys. I think Mookie, Freddie – they’re superstars in their own right. But, I mean, the attention is going to be on Shohei 24/7. I think he can handle it from what I’ve seen and I think it should be good for our team.”

Ohtani isn’t Kershaw’s first superstar teammate, but he certainly is the first kind of player to attract this type of attention. At this point, it seems like Ohtani is used to it. And surely others like Kershaw, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman don’t mind it one bit.

The Dodgers are stacked from top to bottom, and have World Series or bust expectations. The future Hall of Famer won’t be on the same field as Ohtani until the second half of the season.

Kershaw is still recovering from shoulder surgery that took place in November and won’t be ready until sometime between July and August. We’ll have to wait and see this duo, and it’s sure to be worth the wait.

Ohtani is the star of stars, and what better place to be than in the entertainment capital of the world?
