Dalton Rushing Reveals What Position He Wants to Play for Dodgers Between Catcher, Outfielder

The Los Angeles Dodgers roster is chock-full of talent.

This has to do with many factors like the front office and their offseason deals that further divided the Dodgers with the rest of baseball, the coaching staff and their leadership in the dugout, and of course the players that gave everything to help lift the franchise’s eighth World Series trophy this past October.

Another constantly overlooked facet of the Dodgers’ success is the farm system.

A farm that has brought up names like Clayton Kershaw, Will Smith, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May and others who have been integral in the major leagues might just have another name to add to the storied list.

Dodgers top prospect Dalton Rushing has been wowing scouts since 2022 with his bat. He’s a career .273/.410/.520 hitter with an OPS of .930 over those three seasons in the minor leagues.

The only minor adjustment Rushing has to make is that he is a catcher learning to play in the outfield.

With Smith is the Dodgers’ future behind home plate, and Rushing is adjusting so that he can sooner come up to the majors and display his offensive skills.

In an exclusive interview with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, the No. 1 prospect shared his preference on where he would rather play whenever he ends up getting the call from Los Angeles.

“Whatever proposes itself the earliest, the soonest, whatever way I can help on this team, I’m just gonna take advantage of that opportunity and down the road if catching is the true piece that I’d hold onto, then we’ll cross that bridge,” Rushing said on Dodgers Dougout Live.

It is certainly tricky to find a consistent place in the lineup for the soon-to-be 24-year-old, but it is promising that Rushing has the option of this versatility upon his Dodgers arrival.

Rushing has shown maturity in his answers with McKain, but also shows flexibility in where he can get plugged into defense. As long as his offensive game keeps up the way it has been, he can expect the call to the majors sooner rather than later.
