Dave Roberts Jokes About His Dodgers HR Record Being Broken Soon by Shohei Ohtani
Shohei Ohtani has been lighting up the stat sheet for the Dodgers as of late. After getting off to a slow start, by his standards, he started to turn things around right before the team’s first road trip.
So far this season, Ohtani has hit .343 with four home runs and 10 runs batted in. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts currently owns the team record for most home runs hit by a Japanese-born player with seven.
As Ohtani quickly approaches that mark, Roberts quipped about the milestone after Friday night’s game.
“I still have a couple more days before my record is broken.”

Barring a literal catastrophe, Ohtani will break that record sooner rather than later. Before he does that, though, he has one other milestone he should eclipse.
With his next home run, Ohtani will pass Hideki Matsui, nicknamed Godzilla, for the most home runs by a Japanese player in MLB history. It seems that everything Ohtani does has some historical significance to it, truly making him “must watch television, every night.
Recently, drama arose surrounding Ohtani’s first home run as a Dodger and the stadium security’s handling of the ball. With another milestone on the horizon, it’s worth keeping an eye on how that situation differs this time around.
