Dodgers Acquire Infielder From Tigers, Transfer Clayton Kershaw to 60-Day IL

The Dodgers made a minor trade early Monday morning, acquiring infielder Andre Lipcius from the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations. In a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles transferred left-hander Clayton Kershaw to the 60-day injured list.

The veteran was designated for assignment by Detroit over the weekend and now lands in Los Angeles. Lipcius has spent his career with the Tigers organization, making his MLB debut last season.

He hit .286 with one home with four runs batted in over 13 games with the Tigers a year ago. Most of his time was spent in the minor leagues, seeing 97 games of action in Triple-A.

Lipcius hit .272 with 11 home runs and 58 runs batted in while in Triple-A. He should provide the Dodgers with some additional infield depth.

Kershaw was expected to miss a good chunk of time this season. He is expected to pitch later this year, potentially in late July or August if all goes well in his recovery from shoulder surgery.

He will continue focusing on getting healthy for the stretch run of the season, and continue his throwing program.

The Dodgers season starts on March 20 against the San Diego Padres in Korea, as part of the Seoul Series.
