Andrew Friedman Strongly Defends Dave Roberts as Dodgers’ Manager
The Los Angeles Dodgers play in front of the most fans and under the strongest microscope. One small mishap, and the blame will all fall on manager Dave Roberts.
If they don’t win the National League pennant, he’s probably gone. Anything short of that will be considered a failure and the manager will be the easiest target. Right?
President Andrew Friedman knows how difficult the job Roberts has is. In a text to Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times, he confirmed it.
“Doc does an incredible job of balancing the many duties of the modern-day manager. There’s a relentless nature to the job and his ability to cultivate a great clubhouse culture, maintaining high energy and keeping the clubhouse loose, all while staying locked in on game strategy is truly impressive.”

While managing the Dodgers, crazy expectations accompany a perennially top-5 payroll. Yet there isn’t anywhere else Roberts wants to be.
“But I love it, I get so excited to drive up Vin Scully Avenue every day to work. When you love the city, you love the organization, you love the people within it, I know it sounds trite, but it doesn’t even seem like a job!”

He might love his job but the job doesn’t always love him back — if Roberts only listened to fans. Fortunately for his sake, Roberts has allies in the front office who are more supportive than critical.
