Dodgers: Another Online Poll Shows More Fans Open to Trevor Bauer’s Return

When Trevor Bauer’s suspension was truncated and he was reinstated, we here at Dodgers Nation ran a Twitter poll to get a feel for whether Dodger fans want Trevor Bauer back in blue in 2023. That poll got nearly 15,000 responses, with a strong majority wanting Bauer back.

Over at the Los Angeles Times, they ran a poll of their own, which garnered 19,193 responses. And while the margin was much more slim, the majority of respondents again voted to keep Bauer, according to Times columnist Houston Mitchell.

Last week, I asked you to vote in an unscientific poll as to whether the Dodgers should keep Trevor Bauer, or release him. And, after 19,193 votes, the results are in:

Keep him, 51.2%
Release him, 48.8%

Even our more lopsided poll shows how polarizing Bauer is. The question of “Should the Dodgers keep the former Cy Young winner whom they have to pay anyway?” would be a no-brainer if not for the unspoken part at the end of the question: “By the way, he was just reinstated after serving the longest suspension in the history of MLB’s joint policy on domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, and he’s the only player in the history of that policy to be suspended for sexual assault.”

There was about a week between these two polls, and it’s tough to tell how much the time lapse affected the results. It’s also pretty clear that the L.A. Times and the Dodgers Nation Twitter account probably have slightly different constituencies. But the Los Angeles front office is surely weighing this fan opinion as they battle with the decision whether to bring Bauer back or pay him to go away.

As the poll results show, it’s not an easy decision.

  1. A lot of the LA Times poll voters probably aren’t even baseball fans. Your poll is different in that respect. The dilemma the Dodgers have is they can’t just listen to the diehard fans.

  2. Play him, build his marketability up and trade him if you don’t like his behavior. There are no laurels to be gained by releasing him. DFA Manfred!

  3. He paid dearly for an error in judgement over a “hooker”. Get him on our field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. The Dodgers need frontline pitching. Give him a chance to proof himself. They have to pay him,
anyway, so let him work for his money.

  5. Dodgers are in the business of winning and they have a better chance to win with Bauer pitching than not having him at all.

  6. This is a no brainer if you have to pay him play him. This is a business decision don’t cut your nose to spite your face. I’ve been a Dodger Fan for 63 years and have no problem with him pitching for the Dodgers. He served his suspension by MLB for something he wasn’t convicted of LET HIM PLAY.

  7. I am sure those voting not to bring him back would feel very differently if they were on the hook for the $22.5M.

  8. Bring him back. It was a mistake letting Chapman go a few years ago. Let’s NOT make that mistake again. The Yankees capitalized on that mistake years ago and benefited for quite awhile. We DO NOT need to go down that road again!

  9. Gotta draw the line somewhere in the sand. The guy violated the MLB Code of Player Conduct and got the longest suspension in the history of the MLB. The Dodgers have a $5 BILLION (with a “B”) name brand. It isn’t worth screwing that up for a $22 million salary. If you’ve ever seen any of his YouTube videos, it’s pretty easy to see that he’s a narcissistic punk. We don’t need him that bad. What we need is HITTING! Find us some of that!!

  10. Have you ever heard the expression “damned if I do and damned if I don’t”? …. that’s where the Dodger front office is.

  11. So, the MLB “Code of Conduct”…

“Where does it say to punish those falsely accused, never found guilty nor convicted…?”

Color thee stupid, call thee blind…????

  12. Let him play already! He has paid his dues, “served” his time. We need his help and talent in the rotation. We can’t afford to let an ace pitcher – a Cy Young Award winner – go to another team especially with the losses/injury-prone bullpen we have been plagued with the past few years!

  13. Let Bauer back in the rotation and let him pitch every 4 days. The Dodgers need pitching, he is healthy and well rested! ??

  14. Bauer brings excitement to a much boring team, I love when he pitches, so what the Sex got rough, he said she said. Throw the first stone, those who never had rough Sex. Bring Trevor Back, we need him. WS ring gets closer.
