Dodgers Are Trying Out Miguel Vargas in the Outfield at OKC

The Dodgers filled a need this week by making a trade for Trayce Thompson. That deal had almost no risk associated with it as they only sent cash to the Tigers in the deal. But with Mookie Betts out for roughly two weeks, they needed that bat in there.

And they might be testing out some more options in the minor leagues. The Dodgers do not currently have Miguel Vargas on their 40-man roster, but fans have been very exited about the opportunity for him to come up to the show.

The Dodgers’ number 5 prospect has crushed 11 homeruns in 65 games for the OKC team. But the problem is that he is very much limited to first and third base. His defense also isn’t all that great at those spots. But this afternoon, Vargas is getting his first taste in the outfield at Triple-A.

It could be nothing, but it could also be the Dodgers exploring their options. At the very least, the team is likely trying to explore the future with Vargas and expand his versatility. Having a guy that can play all over is definitely something that the team prefers, and they’ve made it work in the past.

Vargas’ bat is real, and the 22-year-old slugger should be headed to the big leagues sooner rather than later. His power is very much something the Dodgers are excited about, and with good reason. But he might not be ready to go quite yet.
