Dodgers: Bobby Miller Earns Top Marks from New GM Brandon Gomes

The Dodgers have a trio of minor league pitchers with plenty of major league potential. Bobby Miller, Ryan Pepiot, and Landon Knack have all garnered their share of praise while working their way through the Dodgers farm system.

Newly appointed Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes is particularly impressed with Bobby Miller’s thirst for pitching knowledge.

“Bobby specifically, his makeup in wanting to know how to attack guys from pitch usage standpoint and trying to understand strengths and weaknesses of hitters is definitely a unique trait. Especially for someone that young. You combine that with elite level athleticism and an easy throw, he has a chance to be something really special.”

Miller was the Dodgers first round pick in the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft. Miller finished the season with the Double-A Tulsa. He compiled a 2.40 ERA in 56.1 IP. It’s not just the Dodgers who excited about Miller. A panel of MLB.com writers selected Miller as the Dodgers prospect “they’re most excited to see” in the majors.

Gomes is also high on Pepiot and Knack. He deemed Pepiot, along with Miller, an “elite competitor.”

Ryan Pepiot

Pepiot is the Dodgers second overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Pepiot has a solid fastball (93-96 MPH), but his changeup is what sets him apart. His devastating changeup earned a 70 grade on the the 20-80 prospect grading scale. However, Pepiot might need a little more time to marinate before he hits the bigs. The righty had a 4.62 ERA in 22 starts between Double-A and Triple-A last season.

Landon Knack

Landon Knack is another pitching prospect the Dodgers spent significant draft capital on in the 2020 draft. The Dodgers took Knack out of East Tennessee State in the second round. He’s a little behind Miller and Pepiot as far as reaching his ceiling, but Knack also earned top marks from Gomes.

“[Knack] is coming up through the minor league system and also someone who’s on our radar and is incredibly talented.”

For the Dodgers, the pattern is full of talented pitching prospects.
