Dodgers Bring Back Jason Heyward On One-Year Deal

The Dodgers have brought back veteran outfielder Jason Heyward for next season on a one-year deal. The deal is for $9 million next season. MLB insider Kiley McDaniel of ESPN was the first to break the news.

Heyward was one of the more productive members of the Dodgers from last season, and there had been talk about a reunion between the two sides. LA retains one of their leaders in the clubhouse, and a close friend of star Freddie Freeman.

He put together a solid season for the Dodgers, hitting .269 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in. LA had wanted to make the corner outfield spot a priority this winter, so re-signing Heyward made sense.

This signing paves the way for star utilityman Mookie Betts to continue to play in the infield this coming season, giving LA more flexibility moving forward. Heyward is a solid signing for the Dodgers, and it always made sense to bring him back.

The veteran was great for the culture of the team, and he mentored a lot of the younger LA players. He notably took rookie outfielder James Outman under his wing, and Outman has spoken about the impact that Heyward had on his improvement.

This is the first big signing for the Dodgers, but they are just getting started. LA is expected to be aggressive in upgrading their pitching staff this winter, and the fun is just beginning.
