Dodgers’ Brusdar Graterol Dealing With 2 Injuries, Will Open Season on IL
The injuries to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff started to pile up late in spring training, in advance of the Seoul Series. Another arm joined that group this week when right-hander Brusdar Graterol was unable to bounce back quickly from multiple injuries.
It was already noted that Graterol wouldn’t travel to South Korea with the team due to some hip tightness and shoulder soreness. It seems to have gotten worse, and the two sides want to be cautious with the injury to avoid it lingering throughout the season.
Graterol says he thinks his shoulder discomfort, which he described as minor, was a result of overcompensating for his hip in his mechanics.

The hard-throwing right-hander was hopeful to be ready for the domestic home opening series against the St. Louis Cardinals, but that door is now closed.
“I’ve been trying to work through some of that, loosen it up,” Graterol said in Spanish. “I’m just trying to prevent something major from happening.”

Last year, Graterol appeared in 68 games out of the Dodgers’ bullpen, posting an ERA of 1.20 and a WHIP of 0.97. He struck out 48 over 67.1 innings of work.
Graterol has been one of the more trusted members of the Dodgers’ bullpen over the years, so his presence will be missed to start the season.
Los Angeles has already seen both Blake Trienen and Emmet Sheehan go on the injured list this year. The hope is that the injury to Graterol isn’t too serious and he can return to the team as soon as possible.
