On Thursday night, Dodgers All-Star right fielder Cody Bellinger hit his team-leading 30th home run which put him in the company of one of the most respected legends in major league history.
In National League history, only two players under the age of 25 have hit 30+ homers before the All-Star break: Willie Mays in 1954 (31) and the @Dodgers' Cody Bellinger this year.#LABleedsBlue

With 30 Belli Bombs on the season, Cody already has the most home runs before the All-Star break in Dodgers history, breaking a record that had stood since 1955. Moreover, he became the second player in National League history to hit 30 home runs before the All-Star break before the age of 25. A 23 year-old Willie Mays hit 31 for the New York Giants in 1954.
Mays finished that ’54 season with 41 HRs, and won the NL MVP award.
What we’re seeing out of Bellinger this season is truly remarkable. After working his way through a mini-slump in early June, Cody has 10 HRs in his last 20 games, and 3 already in the month of July.

Bellinger and the Dodgers have three more games before the All-Star break to tie or break Mays’ record.
I think Cody will break Mays record as long as he doesn’t put pressure on himself to do so, i don’t see Cody as the type to do really pay attention to records to worry or care much about it. I think he will get a few more HR over the SD series he is locked in right now.
And this is all without doing a thing in Colorado!
Nathan, just think of this, and it impresses me big time… Bellinger now has 11 HR’s off LHP ALONE! I mean there are MLB players who won’t reach 19 HR’s in total for the year!
I meant to say players won’t reach 10 HR’s..a correction from above post. Honestly, for several years now I really did not have a favorite Dodger player that stands out with me more so than others. But today, July 5, 2019 I declare that yes, CODY BELLINGER IS MY FAVORITE DODGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he can keep his average over .300 all year he should have a monster season.
