Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Provides Injury Update on Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto is heading on the right path in his recovery. On Friday, before the first of three against against the St. Louis Cardinals, Yamamoto threw 17 pitches in his live bullpen session. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic shared the news via Twitter/X.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described Yamamoto’s outing as ‘good’ as he recovers from his rotator cuff strain.

Friday was the first time Yamamoto had faced live hitters since landing on the injured list in June. Although he looked good, his session was cut short due to heat.

The 26-year-old will have at least two more live sessions before he begins his rehab assignment.

Yamamoto was one of L.A.’s biggest signings of not only last offseason but of arguably the century. The right-hander pitcher has been a revelation for the Dodgers. Prior to his injury, the Japanese sensation was finding his groove in the major leagues, recording a 6-2 record with a 2.92 ERA, 84 strikeouts, and a 1.06 WHIP in 14 starts.

Yamamoto has and will continue to play a vital role for the Dodgers, especially as we exit the dog days of summer and soon enter the month of October when things will start to count for Los Angeles. While Yamamoto’s presence has been missed, the Dodgers have had a flurry of injuries, especially from their starting rotation.

The 26-year-old is one of many who have entered the injured list and remained on the injured list. It’s been an injury-riddled season for the Dodgers on that front, but slowly but surely, they will start to look like the team many predicted they’d be this past winter.

The sooner L.A. can get back Yamamoto, the better. From day one, the Dodgers believed he could be this team’s ace, and that will be the case once he returns from the injured list.

The Dodgers are trying to capture another elusive World Series title, which would be their eighth in franchise history. All of that won’t be possible without Yamamoto’s arm. He has transcended this team, and the hope is that he will continue to be so.

Once he is back on that big league mound, the Dodgers will once again be a force to be reckoned with.
