Dodgers Have Been Privately Informed About Opening 2025 Season in Tokyo: Report

After opening this season in Korea against the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers international games may just be the beginning. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers, along with the Chicago Cubs, have been privately informed that they have been chosen to open 2025 in Tokyo.

“The Chicago Cubs and Dodgers have been privately informed they have been selected to open the 2025 season in Tokyo.”

If Los Angeles and Chicago do face off against one another in Tokyo to open the 2025 season, it would be a highly anticipated event. With Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the Dodgers, they have become the team of Japan.

The Cubs have a few Japanese players on their roster as well, outfielder Seiya Suzuki and newly signed starting pitcher Shota Imanaga. It would be an insanely popular event and the players would be able to go back to their country to play.

There were reports about this possibly weeks ago, but Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten seemed to shoot down the rumors. Maybe this was due to the league wanting to keep it under wraps for now, but here is what he said.

“We do not know that,” Kasten said when asked if the Dodgers would be going to Japan next year. “I don’t have any expectations of that.”

Once Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, the reality of them heading to Japan for a few games seemed imminent. Both Ohtani and the Dodgers brand themselves are massive in Japan, making this a perfect pairing.

While we don’t have any details about the potential series yet, we may hear more about it soon. It takes some time to plan everything out when it comes to these international series, so the more time is given, the better for everyone.
