Dodgers Highlights: J.D. Martinez and David Peralta Homer, Bullpen Hangs on To Win

The Dodgers beat the Pirates, 6-4, on Wednesday night, winning the third game of the series behind a clutch bullpen performance and a power surge from J.D. Martinez and David Peralta.

Bobby Miller allowed a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the first inning, but he struck out the side. He found off-speed stuff command in the second. With a ten-pitch third, he brought down his pitch count to a manageable level. In the fourth, Miller allowed a three-run homer on a hanging slider, but he retired the next three. Miller was the first Dodger starter in July to go five innings. After throwing 100 pitches in 5.2 innings, Dave Roberts lifted Miller. He had 7 strikeouts and one walk.

In the second, with two outs after Jason Heyward and James Outman, the Dodgers wasted a scoring opportunity. Max Muncy and J. D. Martinez walked and David Peralta was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the fourth. Heyward had a sac fly and Miguel Rojas singled in Martinez.

With one out in the fifth, Will Smith and Muncy walked and scored on Martinez’s 20th homer to give the Dodgers the lead. Peralta followed with a dinger of his own.

Phil Bickford finished the sixth scorelessly but loaded the bases to begin the seventh. Ryan Brasier escaped the jam without allowing a run.

In the ninth, Daniel Hudson loaded the bases, but then escaped the jam. The Dodgers got the win, 6-4.
