Dodgers in a Holding Pattern with Injured Daniel Hudson, No Updated Timetable For Now

The latest update on reliever Daniel Hudson is not great. It’s not bad but just not ideal. The Dodgers right-hander who is recovering from June 2022 knee surgery is throwing but his surgically repaired joint is just not bouncing back the way the team needs it to after outings.

Manager Dave Roberts provided the update on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the mini series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Hudson, who tore the ACL in his left knee last season, has remained back in Arizona and throwing for the last week. But, same as it was before the Dodgers packed up and headed west to Dodger Stadium, the days after throwing appear to be the issue for the pitcher.

Heading into spring training, the hope was that the veteran hurler would be able to break camp with the team. Now the frustration is mounting as we go from a hopefully end of April return to no timetable.

“We’re trying to evaluate it right now to see where we’re at,” Hudson said two weeks ago. “We haven’t really made any decisions on what the next step is. We’re just trying to map some stuff out … on when I can get back into games.”

Hudson has been looked at as someone that would likely see a fair amount of save opportunities for the Dodgers this season. But, for now, we sit and wait to see what, if anything, the team will be able to get out of the 36 year old.

He posted a 2-3 record with a 2.22 ERA over 25 games for LA last season. He was second on the team in saves with 5.
