Dodgers News: Miguel Vargas Dealing With ‘Soreness,’ Available to Hit Off The Bench

Dodgers star rookie infielder Miguel Vargas is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday. Vargas, who has an incredible league-leading on-base percentage of .722 through four games (and one pinch-hit appearance), was hit on the hand with a pitch in the 7th inning of last night’s game. Vargas remained in the game, relieving Dodger fans a little bit of the potential stress of an injury. However, on Tuesday, that stress came back when he wasn’t in the lineup.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s game and explained why Vargas was out of the lineup. He said Vargas was dealing with some soreness, but would be available to hit off the bench if need be. Roberts also said he’s hoping Vargas would be good to go on Thursday in the team’s next game against the Diamondbacks.

Roberts doesn’t expect it to be an IL stint, and thinks Vargas should be back in the lineup soon. With him out, though, Mookie Betts will continue working at second base.

There was clearly something going on with Vargas, as he already got a day off on Sunday and definitely didn’t need another one this early in the season. But it’s nice to know that it’s not too serious, and he should be back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

Vargas has had an incredible knack for getting on base early in the year, and the team is 3-1 when he starts. So, let’s hope he’s back in there on Thursday, after two days of rest.
