Dodgers Injury News: Team Shares Update on Dustin May
One member of the Dodgers who has had a tough break of late is starting pitcher Dustin May, who just can’t seem to stay healthy. He returned to the mound this season after missing a ton of time in 2021 and 2022 due to Tommy John Surgery, but unfortunately, fate had cruel intentions again.
May was injured yet again this season, and he underwent surgery on his throwing elbow in July. It was a massive blow to the Dodgers rotation during the season, and there isn’t really a timeline on his return.
General Manager Brandon Gomes provided an update on the pitcher but also cautioned that he was someone that they weren’t going to push due to his history.
It seems that May might not be ready to go for Spring Training next season, even if that was already a thought. He will likely miss a good chunk of time this coming season, and his future remains in doubt.
When healthy, May has electric stuff out on the mound, and he has shown why the Dodgers have been so high on him. Prior to his injury this year, he made nine starts, posting an ERA of 2.63 and a WHIP of 0.94.
May was supposed to be a major member of the Dodgers starting rotation this past season, but his injury history has complicated matters. Injuries have taken over his young career, and it’s been very tough to watch play out.
The hope is that he can return to the mound at some point next season to provide the team with anything he can. He may need to change how he throws the baseball, otherwise, he risks causing more issues for himself down the line.
Hopefully, he can stay healthy whenever he returns to the mound, and he can play out a normal career. However, the multiple surgeries do make matters tough for him, and the team has likely tempered expectations moving forward.

He might be a better choice as a high leverage closer. That wouldn’t put so much strain on his arm and he could benefit from days off with more regular but limited use. Otherwise he might be done as a starter.
I agree, quit dreaming, use him as a power closer, get a couple of hot prospects like Snell and Yamamoto recognize that May is done..
I agree big time. Dodgers MUST move on as far as obtaining other front line staters and not hold out in the hopes May will be able to pitch as a starter at all in 2024.
Maybe they should do what they do in Japan and not baby the arms. Let them pitch more inninings, few rest days age strengthen their arm. Obviously the Dodgers baby every arm and have the most injuries.
I agree he should be a relief pitcher. Closer. The Dodgers Ned to get at least two front line starters in the off season. That is more needed than Ohtonie.
Sign Snell Yamamoto and Belli (Dodgets should have learned years ago it takes 2 years to heal a major injury.) DFA Taylor and Muncy. Who needs 400 strikeouts per year ? Install Busch at 3rd Vargas at 2nd – it takes 600 ab’s to know if a guy can do it. Maybe sign Hader. Why rely on a guy with 2 surgeries ? Build a roster
Don’t worry fans, Doc will be with us to show us the way ! Again, again and again.
May’s a damn beast when dukmy healthy. We’re just need him for late season – which it’ll look like he’ll be ready by August in full stride. Then : Miller, May, Gonso ,.Sheenan or Pep and Buehler will be rocking opposing offenses come playoffs!!!! Maybe a post op Kersh too?! Stone or grove, Yamamoto: 1 of them will kick ass, another will be avg. The 3rd will b ok trade bait come deadline. So relax all you glass 3/4 empty ppl. Sheez, y’all nervous fairweather fans!
