Dodgers: LA Adds Five Players To the 40-man Roster

It may be the offseason, but the Dodgers never stop moving. Or at least making moves. Internal moves, to be more specific. Los Angeles Dodgers added outfielder James Outman, infielders Jacob Amaya, Eddys Leonard, Jorbit Vivas, and pitcher Michael Grove to the 40-Man Roster.

The Kids Hit

Outman showed some real potential during spring training, and he continued to show he’s on the rise during his season. Between High-A Great Lakes and Double-A Tulsa, he hit a combined .266 (110-for-414) with 21 doubles, 18 homers and 54 RBI. At Double-A Tulsa, he hit .289. Last week he was also named to the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game. Outman’s star is clearly on the rise, so look out for him over the next few seasons to see some major league time.

Amaya has appeared in 18 Arizona Fall League games so far, batting .320 (16-for-50) with three doubles, three homers, and six RBI. In four minor league seasons with the Dodgers, he is batting .254 (311-for-1449) with 25 homers and 161 RBI. The southern California native also plays good defense.

Corresponding Moves

Billy McKinney and Zach Reks have been designated for assignment. McKinney famously saw perhaps more playing time than many Dodger fans thought he should have. In a Dodger uniform, McKinney posted a 40 OPS+, batting .196 in 37 games. Seeing McKinney in playoff games was a true showing of just how depleted the Dodgers were.

Reks only had 10 at-bats at the major league level, striking out seven times. It’s hard to come down on Reks, who was probably not major league ready, but he is now headed for assignment.

Moving On

The Dodgers 2021 season may have ended prematurely. The Dodgers offseason may have a ton of question marks. The Dodgers also proceed business as usual and are always competitive, and their young players are the reason for this. Dodger fans have known for years to pay attention to our minor league players, as they are definitively the future.

  1. Those are some good choices; especially the players they removed from the 40 man.

    1. No doubt Roberts will try to find another “pet” player to try to redeem. He seems to identify with the underdog which is not bad if it’s not at the expense of the teams success.
