Dodgers’ Max Muncy Says He Has ‘No Time Table For Return’ Right Now

While the Los Angeles Dodgers revealed exciting news about starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw’s recovery from offseason surgery, there was some unfortunate news regarding infielder Max Muncy.

Muncy told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times that he felt a “twinge” in his rib cage about seven-to-10 days ago while swinging a bat in Ariz., and has been shut down from all baseball activities. Muncy was disappointed, saying there was no timetable for return at this point.

“Not sure frustrating even describes how I feel right now,” Muncy said.

Manager Dave Roberts told Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times that Muncy remains on a “slow program” in his recovery from an oblique strain on Friday. Roberts added then that Muncy was still feeling discomfort two weeks into his injured list stint and that he had stopped swinging for the time being.

Muncy and the Dodgers are hopeful that he will return to the big league club soon because the offense has been struggling to score without him. Entering Saturday, the Dodgers have only been averaging 3.7 runs per game since Muncy last played. They were averaging 6.8 per game before he hit the IL.

The third baseman was batting .223 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs when he was placed on the 10-day IL on May 17.
