Dodgers News: Andrew Friedman Says Team in ‘Wait and See Mode’ Regarding Julio Urias

Though no formal ruling has been made on the status of Julio Urias, Dodgers front office executive Andrew Friedman is keeping a specific mentality in awaiting the details of his off the field status.

Although many in the organization have moved on from his presence both in the locker room and around the stadium, LA’s GM has reiterated patience in dealing with the fate of his lefty starter.

“Right now, we’re still in wait-and-see mode,” Friedman said Monday. “It’s in Major League Baseball’s hands, and for right now, for us, it’s about having adequate space for players that are in there. Nothing more, nothing less. Obviously, when there is more news, then we will react accordingly.”

Slated to be a part of the playoff roster, Urias’ felony arrest on domestic violence charges to begin September has raised significant questions about his future not just with the Dodgers, but given his second offense of a similar crime, possibly his MLB career.

Though Friedman’s shrewd moves and keen eye for talent have brought in Lance Lynn at the trade deadline and countless rookie contributors for the 2023 roster in LA, attempting to pick up the pieces from the Urias’ situation hasn’t been an easy task.

As rookies Emmet Sheehan and Gavin Stone have struggled to impress in their auditions for the postseason roster as Urias’ replacement, it’s difficult to imagine such issues will be solved with so little time left in the regular season.

It’s been a headache for the Dodgers organizations and fans of the team to see and quite a sad situation as manager Dave Roberts has already described.

Unfortunate as the situation may be, Freidman’s mindset remains focused on who he does have for the 2023 postseason, though such pitching options are becoming thinner by the game.

  1. I think this is pathetic to say but I think he was set up, unless Daisy says he did hit her there is open skin

    1. They have his actions on tape. No question he did what they said he did. There should be no difference in how he is treated as they treated Bauer. He should be gone..period. Bauer wasn’t even arrested.
