Dodgers News: Caleb Ferguson Opens for LA, Gavin Stone to Join Active Roster

After last night’s loss, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced the club’s plan for Sunday’s matinee finale against the Red Sox. Once again, left-hander Caleb Ferguson will be the opener for LA as rookie Gavin Stone follows him “at some point” in relief.

With that said, yes, the Dodgers have recalled Stone from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned lefty reliever Bryan Hudson back down to AAA.

The move was expected once Stone was spotted at Fenway Park on Saturday. The right-hander has been superb since last being sent down to AAA, posting a 2.85 ERA over 8 games (7 starts). His most recent appearance came in a bulk reliever role, something Roberts said he wants Stone and fellow rookie Emmet Sheehan to get used to.

In 4 games (3 starts) with the big league club, Stone has struggled mightily giving up 17 runs in 12 innings for a 12.75 ERA.

As for Ferguson, today will be his fourth “start” of the season. He’s allowed 1 run in 3 previous outings as an opener. Altogether, the veteran has put together a solid but at times erratic season in 2023. He owns a 2.81 ERA over 54 games.
