Dodgers News: Max Muncy Joins Franchise Royalty with Home Run in Boston

Saturday before he was ejected, Max Muncy hit his 30th home run of the season. This is the fourth season since joining the Dodgers in 2018 where he has hit at least 30 home runs. With the feat, he landed himself amongst franchise elite and he joined MLB Hall of Famers Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, and Mike Piazza, and LA legend Eric Karros as the only players ever to accomplish this feat.

While Muncy is having a difficult season both offensively and defensively, he still has power. Since 2018 when he joined the Dodgers, Muncy has been a reliable power hitter. If the 2020 season wasn’t abbreviated, he likely would have had at least thirty home runs again.

Muncy suffered a dislocated elbow on the last day of the 2021 regular season. Since then, he hasn’t been the same hitter. He still has power, but he’s struggled to hit for average. Before the injury, Muncy was a .250 hitter.

In 2022, he had a .196 batting average, and this season he has a .197 batting average. Muncy has an excellent eye for the strike zone. Frequently, poor umpiring hurts him. However, Muncy needs to be aggressive when a pitch is on the corner of the strike zone. This would allow him to have a higher batting average.

Issues aside, this is still an incredible feat for a guy that signed a minor league deal with Los Angeles after being cast off by the Oakland A’s following the 2016 season. His name will forever be etched alongside some of the best to ever suit up for the organization.
