Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw ‘Far Away’ from Making Decision About 2024

Saturday might have marked the end of an era for the Los Angeles Dodgers and star pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers’ 7-0 home win over the San Francisco Giants could have been the final time Kershaw makes a start in a regular season game in Dodger Stadium.

“It’s always special to get to pitch here,” Kershaw said.

Kershaw pitched five innings and allowed just two hits and zero earned runs. He struck out five batters.

The three-time Cy Young winner has been mulling retirement as he prepares to finish his 16th season in the major leagues, all of which he has spent as a Dodger.

Currently on just a one-year deal, the 35-year-old has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons, including spending six weeks on the injured list due to a shoulder injury.

Regardless of the difficulties he has had staying completely healthy this season, Kershaw has still been more than effective from the mound.

With a 13-4 record, Kershaw holds a 2.42 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP and a 3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He will once again be an integral part of a championship-contending Dodgers squad, and that is where his focus lies — not on the offseason.

Thankfully, we’re in the playoffs,” Kershaw said. “It’s a nice distraction, so you don’t really have to think about next year or anything like that.”

Kershaw would not commit to what his decision would ultimately be but did acknowledge the sentimentality of his potential last start in Dodger Stadium.

“Whenever it could be your last one, maybe you take an extra second,” Kershaw said. “But I’m so far away from that decision that I don’t even have time to worry about it.”

So, for now, the focus is fully on the now and this year’s postseason run. After then, it’s all gully up in the air.

Kershaw is scheduled to start one more time in the regular season against San Francisco, this time on the road.
