Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Officially Placed on Injured List for First Time This Season

The Dodgers have officially made the roster move that we all saw coming on Monday, placing LHP Clayton Kershaw on the injured list with his shoulder issue.

Kershaw, who was scheduled to start Monday’s game, has been working all week to get healthy enough to start this game, but unfortunately, just wasn’t able to fully bounce back.

The Dodgers ultimately decided that it made more sense to put him on the injured list, so he’s now going to be out until after the All-Star break, and RHP Michael Grove has been recalled to start Monday’s game. Additionally, the team recalled RHP Gavin Stone, while optioning LHP Victor Gonzalez.

With Kershaw going on the injured list, all five Dodgers starting pitchers in the Opening Day rotation will have spent time on the IL. Additionally, starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin opened the season on the injured list, while Ryan Pepiot and Walker Buehler have been on it all year.

The most important thing is the health of Kershaw, though, as he’s been the Dodgers best and most consistent starter all year long.

Kershaw was yet to miss a start until today, and was just named to his 10th All-Star team as one of the National League’s best pitchers.

If there was ever a time for Kershaw to hit the IL, though, it would be now. The All-Star break is less than a week away for the Dodgers, so he could get a little extra rest before it, and come back fully recharged for the second half of the season.

Additionally, Kershaw will now be ineligible to play in next week’s All-Star game. The MLB will have to replace him on the roster, and Dodger fans can all hope that reliever Evan Phillips gets the nod.

Get well soon, Kershaw! We can’t wait to have you back for the second half of the season!

As for the rest of the roster moves, Grove is coming up to start Monday’s game while Stone is making his way back up after a rough first stint in the Majors. It’ll be exciting to see what Stone can do as the Dodgers desperately need some solid starting pitching depth.

As for Gonzalez, he was struggling mightily, and was due for a trip back down to OKC.
