Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Really Loves the Lack of Pressure in the All Star Game

Some moments in life are just too special to take for granted, no matter how many times you’ve done them already. For Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, one of those moments is being named to the All-Star team — and no matter how many times he’s done that, it never gets old.

Kershaw was named to the National League All-Star roster for the 10th time this season, tying a LA franchise record but despite that, he still cherishes the opportunity just the same as the first time. It’s a special honor for anyone but especially for a player of Kershaw’s status. Even at the age of 35, he still enjoys the atmosphere and knows not to take it for granted.

Unfortunately, he won’t be able to participate in this year’s game due to an injury but it’s still special nonetheless. This is the second time that he was named to the team but can’t play due to injury but just like this year, he still showed up to partake in the festivities.

“I think it’s just fun to play,” Kershaw said of the All-Star Game. “You don’t play a lot of games where the wins and losses don’t really matter. So just to be able to go out and kind of showcase everybody that’s so good in the game for the first half, is great for baseball and I think guys have fun with it.

Per The LA Times

Kershaw has been in the midst of one of his better seasons in a while prior to his injury and the hope is that he will be able to return to the mound shortly after the break. For the year, he holds an ERA of 2.55 and is tied in WHIP at 1.05 with the Arizona Diamondbacks Zac Gallen.

The veteran left-hander said he enjoys the laid-back attitude of the All-Star game because often times, there is always so much weight on the players within a real game.

“Sometimes you don’t have the pressure. You get to do some fun things, like talk throughout the game or have some different things that maybe you wouldn’t have otherwise. So, I think that’s a cool part of it.”

Per The LA Times

It remains to be seen just how much longer Kershaw will actually play in MLB. He has taken a few one-year deals of late and there has been talk of him hanging things up sooner rather than later. But he is still very good at his craft and this All-Star game honor shows it.
