When Will Clayton Kershaw Return to the Dodgers Starting Rotation?

The Dodgers 2023 season continues to be clouded by injuries. Pretty much every pitcher on the roster has dealt with some sort of injury this season and that continued last week as Clayton Kershaw was forced out of a game early due to shoulder pain.

After debating on what to do with Kershaw, he will indeed be heading to the injured list. However, the veteran left-handed pitcher shouldn’t miss much time as the team will be entering the All-Star break next week, allowing him some extra time to rest up

Even with him going on the IL, the team remains optimistic that Kershaw will only miss a short time. He should hopefully be back quickly after the All-Star break. Manager Dave Roberts spoke about the decision.

“I’m very confident,” Roberts said. “That’s from talking to the training staff and talking to Clayton. Each passing day, it’s gotten better, so I feel really confident about it.

This is probably the smartest way to go about things with Kershaw, especially considering his previous injury history. With Kershaw now on the injured list, every single one of the five starting pitchers that were in the Dodgers Opening Day starting rotation have seen time on the IL.

But this decision was made with the stretch run in mind as Kershaw has been the best and most reliable pitcher for LA this entire season.

“I think we just felt that he wasn’t going to be able to pitch today,” manager Dave Roberts said on Monday. “And so, to give it a definitive reset and then get him back for the second half was probably the best decision.”

Kershaw was in the midst of one of his best seasons in a long time and was named to his 10th All-Star team. He will be ineligible to pitch in the festivities but gets the honor nonetheless.

Hopefully Kershaw isn’t out too long and can get back on the mound soon. The team needs him back badly as they are in the mix for a potential playoff spot. He is still the ace of this team and his consistency this season has gone a long way in the teams success.
