Dave Roberts Praises Fans For Support On Road While Taking Shot at Padres

The Dodgers win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night broke the attendance record for Petco Park, in large part due to the strong support from the Los Angeles fans. Nicknamed Dodger Stadium South, L.A. fans always gather well whenever the team heads down to San Diego to take on the Padres.

After the game, manager Dave Roberts thanked the fans for their support whenever the team has been on the road. But he also didn’t hold back in taking a small shot at the Padres organization either.

This was a small shot at San Diego when they blocked sales of tickets from anyone who wasn’t in San Diego County or nearby areas for their National League Division Series showdown with Los Angeles. The Padres said that if fans outside the area found a way to get tickets, they would be revoked.

It was clear that the Padres wanted home fans to attend the games but even that message didn’t stop fans. While the Padres have loosened their stance on things, Roberts clearly didn’t forget.

This mini shot at the Padres should only increase the strong rivalry between these two teams, making for more fun on the field. Los Angeles and San Diego have both taken a game in this three-game series, making today a rubber match. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. PT.

  1. To be Frank dog, San Diego is always a little vacation spot. We all got familia down there, hit up Chicano Park day, and go down to chill. It’s only natural we catch the game. Also so many Los transplants that live in SD. Come on dog, don’t act like it’s the whole LA based fan contingency that travels down south to watch the game. That’s clickbait hyna ways. The LA fan base is ALREADY THERE. Let me put you up on clecha that the rest of us already knew.

  2. We live in Oceanside but was born and raised in Corona (Dodger Country) and still am an avid Dodger Fan. We, of course were disappointed 2 years ago when the Padres knocked us out in the Division Series and of course, very disappointed over the 2 losses this past weekend.

Padres fans and the San Diego Padres definitely see this as their main rivalry. Unfortunately, Dave Roberts and our Team don’t see this series as a rivalry, which equates to the recent success that SD has had over our Dodgers. My recommendation is that Dave Roberts and Company begin emphasizing the games against San Diego, which might elevate and match San Diego’s intensity against the Dodgers.

  3. Our guys just don’t bring any energy to games against SD. SD brings it. Meanwhile, we waste Tyler Glasnow gems and literally don’t show up with the bats. This team is so hot and cold, that IF we make it to the playoffs this year, we’re bound to be bounced in the first again….why? Because we just don’t bring offensive energy. Our pitchers are going to have to throw complete game shutouts in order for us to win in the post-season. Don’t buy the hype people, our vaunted offense is ‘boom or bust’, and that don’t cut it. Don’t blame Friedman and co, ’cause I do not know what else he can do for this offense. Offensively, I was embarrassed.
