Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Praises Rookies for Huge Impact on 2023 Season

Sometimes the most unlikely contributions throughout a season come from a place that nobody ever saw coming. For the 2023 Dodgers, that would be all of the production that multiple rookies had on the team.

LA has relied upon its strong farm system this season more than ever, and it has yielded very successful results. They are once again one of the better teams in baseball, and a lot of that is on the backs of their young guys.

It’s been a strange season for the Dodgers, with them seeing multiple injuries to key players, and guys not performing up to expectations at different times. But they have pushed through it all, and it starts with how great the young players have been for them.

Manager Dave Roberts gave his thoughts on the rookies throughout the year, and appreciated everything that they have done.

“Inside here, internally, you know the players, the guys and what they’re capable of. You never know how they’re going to come of age or when – or if,” Roberts said of the Dodgers’ reliance on so many rookie players this season. “You look at these young players, all of them under a year of service time, the impact they’ve had on our ballclub – if we don’t get those contributions we’re nowhere near where we’re at right now.”

Per The OC Register

Guys like Emmet Sheehan, Bobby Miller, James Outman and more have shown themselves to be ready for the moment. The poise and execution that each has shown over the course of the year has been incredible to see, and it has directly impacted the success of this team.

“They’re really showing themselves,” Roberts said. “The maturity from all of them, appreciating the fact that this a very good ballclub they’re a part of, what’s in store over the next month. Just the performance speaks volumes.”

Now, they will get ready for the postseason next week. It’s an entirely different animal than what they’ve experienced, but they seem ready for the challenge.

And it may be crazy to think that the Dodgers outcome this season will directly fall on the shoulders of these young players, but after the strong season that they had, the team wouldn’t want it any other way.
