Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Raves About James Outman’s 2023 Campaign

One of the best stories of the season for the Dodgers has been the great play from rookie outfielder James Outman. He burst onto the scene during the Spring Training and earned a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Since then, the young kid hasn’t looked back, and he has been one of the more productive members of this team. His emergence has been incredible to see, and it has helped LA stabilize their outfield throughout a strange season.

He has earned the trust of his teammates, and manager Dave Roberts. Roberts recently spoke about the rookie and praised him for his success this season.

“I can’t say enough about what James has done, from the first month of the season where he sort of came on the scene by surprise, and then hit the skids a little bit, and then recovered in such a good way,” Roberts said. “Defensively playing great, and offensively (he’s) doing a lot of good things.”

It’s not easy for a rookie to come in from day one of the season to produce. This is especially true for a guy who is on a team with World Series aspirations because the pressure is larger than it may be elsewhere.

But Outman never let any of that get to him, and he continued to play his game. For the year, he is hitting .252 with 23 home runs and 69 runs batted in.

“I’ve been working with the coaches, trying to get myself into a more consistent spot, and thanks to a couple of my teammates talking about timing, (I had) a good mindset at the plate (while) being relaxed,” Outman said.

His production helped keep LA alive during their early season struggles, and it is now helping them get ready for the postseason. The playoffs are where he can make his worth really felt, and if he produces there, he will be remembered forever in Dodger blue.
