Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Reacts to Brusdar Graterol Injury News

The Dodgers pitchers continue to battle injuries with Brusdar Graterol now scheduled for an MRI on Friday. Graterol had recently come back from a shoulder strain that had kept him out for over a month, but after four appearances Graterol is back on the IL with right elbow inflammation.

Tony Gonsolin heading to the IL with Graterol only adds to the drama the Dodgers have felt all season long, a carousel of pitchers being injured. If there is any bright side to all this mess, it would be the Dodgers are used to dealing with this kind of adversity and have been very successful with it all.

Brusdar Graterol said he’s getting an MRI tomorrow. Didn’t want to speculate on whether he feels he can be back this year until after that. Said he felt some more pain in his elbow today after trying to throw a bullpen session yesterday. Has bothered him since his last outing.

For now it’s best for the Dodgers to remain patient with Graterol if there is any hope of his return for the postseason. The Dodgers seemed to have done everything right with Graterol but Dave Roberts expressed the moderate concern he has in monitoring the situation (quotes via SportsNetLA). 

“With Brusdar, I’d say there’s moderate concern. He’s obviously a strong, physical guy but to have him healthy, not healthy is a little disconcerting. I thought we had him back, I thought we did everything we could to get him back and keep him back. That’s certainly not the case.He’s shut down for awhile. I don’t know how long. I hope we get him back at some point mid-to-late September and have him help us.

The expectation is still to have him come back and help us.”

The Dodgers are in good position and are fortunate enough to be able to take their time with Graterol. Of course, the hope remains for Graterol to return to the lineup as soon as possible.
