Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Discusses How He’s Seemingly Gotten Better with Age

For the second consecutive season since joining the Dodgers as a free agent, Freddie Freeman has been one of the best players in baseball. The star first baseman is arguably putting together the best season of his 14 year career in 2023, and he’s a player that has put together a number of stellar campaigns in his lifetime.

He was recently asked about how he’s been able to adapt and adjust as he’s gotten older. Having just turned 34 this past week, the MVP hopeful sat down with AM570 LA Sports Radio to open up about his evolution.

“I think I’ve learned a lot. I mean, obviously, anybody can look up my first couple years in the big leagues, I was 30 pounds heavier than I am now. I didn’t know how to eat. I didn’t know how to work out when I first got to the big leagues. I’ve just kind of naturally been able to hit a baseball. So I think as I’ve gotten older, I just know what I need to do in the offseason to prepare myself for a 162 game grind of a schedule. And I know how to take care of my body, know what to put in my body, and how to get ready for games.

“Like, as I’ve gotten older, like, one day if I’m tired, I’ll reduce my swings and stuff like that. I just know what to do to get ready for a game and that obviously comes with time and experience and learning and failing and doing things. So I just love being out there. I know how to get ready for 7:10 and be ready and be prepared for that. So, I take a lot of pride in it and I just know myself. So I think that’s what’s been able to be a huge success for me over the last few years.”

Freeman played a critical role in the 2023 Dodgers’ National League Western Division title and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. In 147 games this season, he’s hitting .335 with an MLB-best 83 extra base hits.
