Dodgers News: LA Analyst Talks Mindset That Separates 2023 Team From 111-Win Squad Last Year

On paper, the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers have less talent than the 2022 Dodgers. Before the season, almost no one picked them to win the National League West division.

However, there’s clearly something that separates this 2023 squad from last year’s franchise-best 111-win team: Their never give up attitude.

Dodgers analyst Jose Mota told Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation that he thinks their grittier attitude will serve them very well come the postseason. You can watch the full interview by clicking the video at the top of the article, or by clicking here.

“111 wins is 111 wins from last year, but I see this team with a different mentality,” Mota said. “I think Freddie Freeman has a lot to do with it. It’s pretty much every inning. Every third of a game. Every last part of a game. From lineup broken into three pieces, there’s a way in which they’re grinding out at-bats. This team is really good at beating bullpens … They have the mentality of, whatever happened in the fifth inning, don’t bring it to the seventh inning. I want to continue to see that. I want to see that all throughout the season, the rest of the season and for the playoffs.”

This year, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, who are having unbelievable performances, are the clubhouse leaders. Veterans like Jason Heyward, David Peralta and Miguel Rojas have made big impacts on and off the field, too.

Everything is clicking for the Dodgers right now, and they’re all focused on bringing this thing home. They have a perfect mix of veterans with postseason experience and rookies who want to prove themselves.

The 2023 Dodgers will win more than 1 game in the NLDS. And they have the potential to do some serious damage come October.
