Dodgers News: Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman Having Best Offensive Season for 1-2 in MLB History

Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are having remarkable performances this season. Their combined OPS now over 1.000, if it stood, would be the best in Major League Baseball history for hitters in the top two spots in the lineup — and by a large margin.

Betts and Freeman are competing for the National League MVP. Currently, Betts is the favorite to earn the award since he’d had an unbelievable August.

Freeman, on the other hand, already has 51 doubles this season. Barring an injury, Freeman should have at least 60 doubles this season, becoming the first player to do that since the 1930s.

Freeman’s .338 batting average is third in the National League and he has 25 home runs and 89 RBI to go with it. He also prides himself on playing every game.

Betts is playing everywhere on the field since the Dodgers needed him to. Earlier in the season, with injuries to Chris Taylor and Miguel Rojas, the Dodgers needed Betts to play shortstop, and he did it flawlessly. Now, despite being the best right fielder in the game, against right-handed starters, Betts plays second base.

In August, Betts’ batting average is .452. He has 9 home runs and 26 RBI. His .316 batting average is the 7^th highest in the National League. Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Betts established a career high in home runs with 36.

Both Betts and Freeman want to lead the Dodgers to another world championship. And they’re doing it this season at a historic pace.
