Dodgers News: LA Exec Sets the Record Straight About 2023 Roster

Prior to the start of the 2023 season, many around baseball viewed the Dodgers as a playoff team, but one that would struggle to get there. With the team losing a ton of talent over the offseason, LA was seen to be taking a “step back” year.

However, nobody told the Dodgers, and they have been one of the best teams across the majors again this season.

It has been extremely special to watch, and this version of the Dodgers has a different vibe to them than in previous years. It’s a testament to how the organization is run and speaks to the roster construction.

President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman spoke on the 2023 squad and set the record straight about them.

“We talked about this a lot this last offseason. We felt like the public narrative of this (team) was overblown. That this team was really, really good team. I think if you’re comparing any team to our 2022 team, it’s not going to look as good. My guess is that will be the most talented team I’m ever around in my career but that’s not necessarily the standard. We felt that this team was every bit as talented as the 2017, 2018 Dodgers.”

The team decided to have a changing of the guard, and it has worked out well. Their leadership structure moved around, and LA has shown that they are truly a team. Each member of the squad contributes in their own way, and it has helped in the overall success of the team.

They still have two-star players on the roster in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman and loads of supplementary pieces to help them. The team has allowed many of their younger players to get playing time this season and it has helped translate to a different feel this year.

Many counted this team out and that only fueled the fire of the Dodgers. They have wanted to prove everyone wrong all season, showing that they are still the dominant team in the National League. LA is currently only a few games back of the best record in baseball.

LA will continue making their push toward the playoffs and they have the luxury to tinker with their rotations down the stretch.

  1. a good regular season does not automatically mean post season success…the Dodgers have perfected that over the years. They can pound on the Rockies and Padres in the regular season but in a tough playoff series that will require excellent pitching to win….do they have it? Not at the moment.

  2. Dodger management’s goal is to create the most dominant team in baseball history, surpassing the Ruth-Gehrig Yankees, the Mantle-Berra Yankees, and the Jeter-Rivera Yankees. Throw in Cincinatti’s Big Red Machine and the Dodgers of Snider and Campanella or Drysdale and Koufax.

  3. I have to congratulate Andrew, the coaches and most importantly the players. They have proven me wrong and I am man enough to admit it. I don’t think they have as much talent as last year. But they are a much better team than last year. All the moves they have made has Paid off specially young players they have given an opportunity to. I am just worried if we have enough talent to beat Atlanta or the American League Champions???
