Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Feels He’s Better Than He’s Ever Been Since Joining LA

When the Dodgers traded for Mookie Betts back in 2020, it was to get them over the hump in winning a World Series and to bring one of the best players in baseball to LA. Betts has been everything and more for LA since his arrival and did help deliver the team their first title since 1988.

He is a special player that has shown the ability to provide them with both power and contract off the bat while also being excellent defensively wherever he plays. This season we have seen him play more in the infield as he shows off his versatility in the field. But it’s also been in his bat that has made his 2023 season incredible to watch.

2023 may be his best season yet and he still has an entire second half to go.

“Betts said he has found “a mechanical cue and feel” in his swing that he’s “able to repeat over and over again.”

“I haven’t had it since becoming a Dodger, really,” he said.

Betts has posted a .287 batting average with 27 home runs and 64 runs batted in. He is on pace to break his own home run record of 35 that he set just last season. He seems to be getting better and better as the years have gone on and that’s a great thing for the Dodgers.

Manager Dave Roberts has noticed the spectacular season that his star is having and gave his thoughts on it as well.

“We can pencil him in there essentially every day and the performance right now — he’s in an elite category,” Roberts said. And also I think he’s trying to win the MVP. You kind of creep back into things. Superstar players are motivated by certain things, and I think he’s put himself in that conversation.”

If Betts can continue this level of production, he could be in line to win his second MVP award. It could be tough with some strong competition but it would be hard to count him out. His consistency this season has been awesome to watch and he is a major reason as to why the Dodgers are seeing success out on the field.

“It’s really about the guys who can be the most consistent,” he said at the time. “Those are the ones that quote-unquote are the best in the game.”
