Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Named Finalist For 2 MLBPA Choice Awards

Mookie Betts put together one of the better years in recent memory, and despite his struggles in the playoffs, he still deserves to be praised for his regular-season accomplishments. He was a key catalyst in the Dodgers overcoming all their adversity this season, helping them win 100 games.

The season obviously didn’t end in the manner that anyone hoped for, but Betts had the best season of his career. He was the frontrunner for the National League MVP award for a good part of the season, and he showed why he is still one of the best players in baseball.

Due to his strong year, Betts has been named a finalist For two MLBPA Choice Awards. He is among the top three for the Player of the Year and the NL Outstanding Player of the Year.

These are big honors to be mentioned in, even if he doesn’t end up winning the award, and it just shows how special of a season he put together in 2023.

Alongside him for Player of the Year is Ronald Acuna Jr. from the Atlanta Braves and Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Angels. For the National League Outstanding Player of the Year, he is among two Braves: Matt Olson and Acuna Jr.

Betts hit .307 with 39 home runs and 107 runs batted in over the course of the year. He was pretty much consistent throughout but did struggle a little bit over the last few weeks of the year. This bled into the postseason, and Betts didn’t show up for LA in their three-game series loss to Arizona.

Betts seems unlikely to win either of these awards as he’s up against the likely winners of the MVP in both the National and American League. However, his 2023 season was special, even if it ended poorly, and we can’t wait to see what he puts together in 2024 for this team.
