Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Picked as Top Player in Postseason by MLB Insider

In his fourth season as a Dodger, Mookie Betts is having one of the best seasons of his career and is looking to continue his hot streak into the 2023 postseason.

While he may never top his AL MVP-worthy season in 2018, this year Betts batted .307/.408/.579 with 39 home runs and 107 RBIs in the regular season. His play in both the outfield and infield reminded the world of Betts’ elite defensive prowess.

Because of his experience winning World Series — Betts has a pair of rings, one with the Boston Red Sox and one with the Dodgers — and his elite production, it is no surprise that MLB.com writer Will Leith picked Betts as his top player in the 2023 postseason.

Stipulating that his rankings were based on each player’s performance in the regular season, their track record and health, Leith ranked Betts, Ronald Acuna Jr. — Betts’ biggest competition for the NL MVP — and Corey Seager as his top three.

So why is Betts the best?

“Deciding who tops this list is a slightly different question than that one. After all, Betts has been here before, winning two World Series, in addition to the fantastic year he’s had in 2023 — which has included playing all over the diamond. Betts is at his absolute peak right now, and clearly eager to get that third ring.”

Betts and the Dodgers will await the results of the NL Wild Card matchup between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Milwaukee Brewers, which will decide their opponent in the divisional round.

The Dodgers had an 8-5 record against the Diamondbacks and a 5-1 record against the Brewers in the 2023 regular season.

  1. Mookie has been great and Freddy is his consistent self, while putting up historical numbers this year. No matter what how they perform we (dodgers) will not win if Willie, Mad Max, an JD do not have good games. If the rest of the lineup take turns coming through we can put it in our pockets now. Go Dodgers !!

    1. John the team’s gonna need more than that. The pitching will need to be on task. One meltdown could cost a game, no matter how productive the offense is.
