Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Reveals the Big Thing That Has Led to Changes in His Power Stroke
Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts is 8 home runs shy of his season-high. He has been remarkable in the last 17 games with 10 home runs out of LA’s leadoff spot.
After Betts set a career high in home runs with 35, the Dodgers sent him to Drive Line to get his swing analyzed. The experts at Drive Line didn’t find anything wrong with Betts’ swing, except he was too light.
Betts spent the past offseason gaining weight and strength. This season he has been slugging seemingly at will.
After the Dodgers’ 5-to-1 victory over the Mets, Betts talked to Ken Rosenthal about his dominance as a power-hitter.
“Throughout the season I am actually trying to get stronger, and stronger, and stronger so I can be the best player I can be.”
Betts also credited hard work and having his friend, J.D. Martinez, on the team. He’s also happy to be moving around the diamond, playing in the infield and outfield. When Betts is happy, it’s clear he performs better.
Many baseball “experts” believe Betts is second in the National League MVP race, just after Ronald Acuna, Jr., who is having an unbelievable season. No one thought Betts would lead the Dodgers in home runs with Martinez and Max Muncy on the team. His willingness to play second base and shortstop when the Dodgers needed him to do that is more valuable than just having a fantastic season. This year Betts has shown why the Dodgers gave him a humongous contract in July 2020 and has helped them retake first place from the Diamondbacks in July.
