Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Tips Cap to Red Sox Nation in Welcome Back to Boston
Mookie Betts has officially made his return to Boston in his Dodgers uniform and Red Sox Nation gave him every bit of a hero’s welcome. Leading off the game for LA at Fenway Park, Betts soaked in the moment as the packed house finally had a chance to share their love and appreciation for the franchise icon.

The last time Mookie suited up in front of Fenway faithful was on September 29, 2019. The Red Sox finished out a disappointing season and missed the playoffs one year after beating the Dodgers and winning the 2018 World Series. He entered that offseason with one year of team control left with the club and had hoped to continue contract extension talks with the organization.
By January, the two sides seemed far apart on a deal that would keep him in Boston for life. By February 10, 2020, he was a Los Angeles Dodger. Flash forward to July 2020, and he signed a deal to be a Dodger for life.
The scene on Friday was classy in Boston as the former homegrown hero walked to the plate. Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire gave Mookie and, more importantly, the fan base the time they needed to share the love and long awaited goodbye of sorts before the now Dodger. After a nice tip of the cap, Mookie fouled out on the infield to make the first out of the game but Freddie Freeman picked him up with a single to follow.
Betts played 6 seasons with the Red Sox, slashing .301/.374/.519 with 139 home runs and 470 RBI and earning an American League MVP along the way.
