Dodgers News: RHP Yency Almonte Exits Friday’s Game Early with Injury

The Dodgers were one out away from another perfect day. Instead, with two outs in the top of the 9th inning, reliever Yency Almonte was forced to exit early with an injury.

The right-hander appears to have tweaked something in his lower right leg.

He attempted to stay in the game and even threw a few more pitches after getting checked by Dave Roberts and the training staff but it was clear that something was wrong for Yency.

Ryan Brasier came on in relief of Almonte and recorded the final out on 7 pitches, locking down a 6-1 victory over the Rockies to take game two of the four game series. Trade deadline addition Lance Lynn got the start and put together a quality outing, tossing 5 innings while striking out 9 Colorado batters. He allowed one unearned run and, importantly, no home runs.

Four relievers combined to keep the Rockies off the board over the final four innings of the game.

UPDATE

Following the game, Roberts shared an update on Almonte saying that the pitcher caught a spike on the mound and twisted his right knee a little. After seeing a non competitive changeup, the manager made the decision to pull Almonte from the game.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s an IL but hopefully we caught it before it got too bad.”
