Down in Triple-A, Erlin has posted a 5.62 ERA while struggling to keep runners off the basepaths over 21.2 innings pitched. The 31 year-old was signed to a minor league deal this past offseason and made one appearance for LA during spring training before being shipped out. Over parts of 7 seasons at the big league level, the veteran has a 13-20 record with a 4.85 career ERA in 115 games. He spent last season in Japan with the Nippon Ham Fighters.
With Clayton Kershaw and Tyler Anderson scheduled to start games one and two respectively on Saturday, the hope is that both starters pitch deep into the game we won’t need to see Erlin. For now, he’s a break-in-case-of-emergency kind of guy.
First pitch at Wrigley Field is set for 10:10 AM PT for game one and 4:40 PM PT for game two. Both games are on Spectrum SportsNet LA.
