Dave Roberts alluded to the return of Kahnle during this series last night in Arizona. Now the right-hander joins the team just in time to potentially celebrate clinching a division title. The former Yankee standout has appeared in just 5 games over the last three years while dealing with arm issues. He made a brief return to the big leagues with the Dodgers back in May, following a long recovery from 2020 Tommy John surgery, allowing 3 earned runs over 4 innings.
Kahnle appeared in 7 minor league rehab outings over the last few weeks, posting a 3.86 ERA while striking out 7 batters over 7 innings. The hope is that he can be a weapon out of the bullpen for the Dodgers in the postseason. The reliever has 15 postseason outings under his belt with a 2.33 career ERA in October.
Hembree was the expected odd man out for LA. The journeyman struggled over 6 outings in blue, allowing 5 earned runs over 5.2 IP.
