Dodgers News: Walker Buehler Doesn’t Expect to Change His Approach to Pitching This Season

The Dodgers will welcome back starting pitcher Walker Buehler this season, even if his start will be delayed. Buehler missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, the second of his career.

He will rejoin a Dodgers starting rotation that has been completely remade from when he last pitched. The front office made it a point this offseason to address the issues in the pitching staff, and Buehler will happily provide the team with extra depth going forward.

Despite the multiple injuries that he has suffered in his career, Buehler doesn’t anticipate changing his pitching approach this season.

“I hope not,” he said. “I like how I used to pitch.”

Prior to his latest injury, Buehler had established himself as the ace of the team. He was the guy that everyone wanted on the mound in the big moments, and he expects to get back to that spot.

“I think I try to take the ball any time,” Buehler said. “I don’t think there’s much question about that.”

Buehler has become a fan favorite in short order, so whenever he does take the mound for the first time, it will be special. He understands that he needs to remain healthy this season, and the Dodgers will do everything they can to help him do just that.

“You get to the big leagues and have any sort of success, I think it’s hard to change anything,” Buehler said. “You want to do what got you there or whatever. You get hurt twice the way I have, sometimes you gotta kind of figure something else out. I think the athleticism in my delivery, or whatever you want to call it, has gotten me to where I am. So put on weight and try to keep that, I think, makes a lot of sense.”

2024 is expected to be a very solid season for the Dodgers, and Buehler is directly in the middle of it all. He gives this team an edge, and hopefully, they can finish the year off with another World Series win.
