Dodgers News: Walker Buehler Takes Next Big Step in Tommy John Recovery

The Dodgers issues with their pitching staff this season has been no secret. They have been uncharacteristically bad considering the standard that they normally set each year. Part of this has been due to inconsistency on the mound, but injuries haven’t helped either.

One player in particular that they are missing is injured star Walker Buehler. Buehler has been out the entire season as he recovers from Tommy John Surgery.

On Thursday, Buehler himself posted a video of him throwing a bullpen session at Camelback Ranch. This is a major update to his rehab process and shows how far along Buehler is.

While it remains to be seen if Buehler will pitch for the Dodgers this season, this is an extremely positive sign and update. There were reports that Buehler was aiming to return to the team come September and if they were to get him back for the latter part of the season, it would be a major boost. Buehler has been one of the more clutch performers come playoff time so having him on the roster and available would be massive.

Buehler has been one of the better pitchers across baseball over the last few years and his production has been severely missed by LA. In 2021, Buehler posted a 16-4 record with an ERA of 2.47 and a WHIP of 0.97. In 12 games last season, Buehler had an elevated ERA at 4.02 and a WHIP of 1.29 before his season was cut short.

The Dodgers could use his consistency back in the mix as he would provide some stability to this pitching staff. But recovering from Tommy John Surgery is no easy feat, and for Buehler, it’s his second one.

However, Buehler has spoken about how he is attacking the rehab process and about how he will come back strong from this.

While he continues the journey back, Buehler has been active on social media to promote his teammates and celebrate their success. It’s been great to see him still joining the discussion on the team.

The 28-year-old seems to be ramping things up and hopefully we can see him back on the field just as soon as it’s medically safe for him to do so!

  1. It’s definitely good to hear the news about Walker Buehler. I’m looking forward to seeing him pitch the way he did in 2021 and also the way he pitched in the 18WS.

  2. Just imagine a starting rotation of

    Walker Buehler
    Dustin May
    Julio Urias
    Clayton Kershaw
    Bobby Miller

  3. I sure miss seeing you pitch! Don’t rush your comeback until your 100 percent.
